God, My Shepherd

Image
God, My Shepherd Psalms 23:1-3 "(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Men who were inspired and wrote Holy books did so by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. They were set apart for the purpose of divine communication of truth which was  once known only by God alone. They saw life from a higher light and were able to script down what they saw or experienced with the understanding of the divine. Some of the inspired writings was detached from the writer's personal experiences while others was a higher understanding of personal experiences which others may interpret differently without the light from God. Reading these writings, one can not but get inspired. One such inspirational writings is the book of Psalms and in particular is the book of Psalms 23. Popular as it may be...

Jesus And Success

Image
Jesus And Success St. Matthew 1:21,23 "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins... Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. To many, success can be defined as in many ways as the number of people. If the definition is wrong, the said success can be a mirage. Because of wrong definition, many may end up hurting themselves while pursuing success because it will look like chasing after the wind. Some people define success as having so much money, more than enough to meet needs and wants. These people will buy the best quality of everything and will buy the latest version when the old one is still good and strong and will still have surplus left. For those desiring this kind of success, they will find themselves in a tight spot when things are not working the way they expected. For some people, success is be...

Jesus Delegated As A Leader

Image
Jesus Delegated Well St. Luke 10:1-3 "After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves." No leader can do it all by himself. Leaders will have to delegate to others who will do what the can do to achieve success. The leader is limited by time and space. He can only be in one place at the same time. In the physical body, a leader cannot dematerialize and materialize and at the same time attend functions and make things happen all by himself in every place. Even while being in one place, there can be many things to be done. The leader needs to delegate. Who does he delegate to and how is it done? These are questions we will answer b...

Jesus Was Rejected

Image
Jesus Was Rejected St. John 1:10-12 "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" A times, a leader might get rejected by men who supposed to appreciate and receive him with open hands. This may occur for many reasons. The emphasis here is that the leader is rejected and not about the reasons why. Rejection could come for good reasons and for wrong. True measure of the success of a leader is not by rejection nor by acceptance. Success is measure in the fulfillment of purpose. Did the leader achieve the purpose he came in to the world or purpose for the leadership? Rejection can be disheartening. Rejection breaks the flow of the consistency of the good leader. The leader may find himself or herself in the middle of no where trying to figure out what to do. This is where God...

Jesus Received Support

Image
Jesus Was Supported Luke 8:2-3 " And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance ." No man will ever be completely successful and fulfilled without the help of other men. The help that a man will receive from other men can come in different many ways. Every man is a three in one being. Though we may not always see it like that, on a careful look, man is a spirit that lives in a physical body and possess a soul. If the spirit is alive, the man is in touch with God and communicates freely with Him. It is the spirit man that first finds peace with God. The soul is made up of the will, the intellect and emotions. The body is what houses the spirit and soul. If the body stops functioning, the man will automatically die and the spirit and soul will find another destination where...

Jesus Understood Other Levels of Authorities

Image
Jesus Understood Other Authorities St. Matthew 22:15, 19-21 "Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk... Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." There are leaders all around us whether we see them or not. Some are instituted authorities, some are religious leaders while others are leaders in various fields of human endeavor. Parents are leaders at the home front, this is so that things can be done orderly and decently. Sometimes a person can be entangled in a web of leaders and not knowing who to submit to at a particular point in time. There are cases where these leaders do not agree in their views and policies and to submit to any will be almost impossible because submission to one w...

Jesus Knew When To Start And When To Stop

Image
Jesus Knew When To Start And When To Stop St. John 7:6,8 "Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.... Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come." Knowing when to start and when to stop a project or an activity is very important to make the best use of an opportunity. This will mean saving money, reduce waste of time, get the best outcome and glorify God. Time is a precious resource no man should waste. Procrastination is one of time's precious resource that will determine how successful a man will be in life. If a man is given to waste of time, he will wonder one day of why things are not working as to how they should.  There is time for everything. There is time for work and a time for play. There is time for play and a time to learn. A man's life can be broken down into phases and stages. Once the phase and stage of an activity comes and the man is not ready, he will cry whe...

Jesus Laid Down His Life For His Sheep

Image
Jesus Laid Down His Life For His Sheep St. John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." Jesus likened his leadership role as a shepherd and his followers as sheep. Shepherds carry their sheep to the pasture where the sheep can get green grass to feed on. This will guarantee sustenance for the sheep. By this, the sheep will be kept alive and vibrant. The sheep have still to know where the sheep can get food. It is one thing to be a shepherd and yet another thing to be a good shepherd. A shepherd can do all that is needed to get food for the sheep and lead the sheep to the pasture where the sheep can eat to satisfaction. It is yet another thing to stand and fight for the sheep when a wild animal attacks the sheep. While a good shepherd will fight off any intruder, risking his life, on the other hand, the other shepherds will run and take cover not minding what happens to the sheep. When the attack.is over, the good shepherd is standing ...

Jesus Understood Purpose

Image
Jesus Was Conscious Of Purpose John 4:34 "Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." Being conscious of the bigger picture in life helps a man to stay on track while handling daily affairs. Every day's choices, places to go, people to meet, likes and dislikes must all be guided by the bigger picture to be truly happy and contribute meaningfully to the whole world to the glory of God. The bigger picture is all about purpose and it has eternity in view. Purpose is to say, 'Why are you here?'. 'What are you meant to contribute on Earth among men to bring them closer to God and make life more meaningful?'  Purpose is the reason or intention behind an action, goal, or existence. It is often associated with having a clear and meaningful reason for doing something, and it can provide direction and motivation in one's life. Any man can have a purpose for life, professional purpose, social or community purpos...

Jesus Was Never Threatened By Others

Image
Jesus Was Never Threatened By Another St. Mark 9:38-40 "And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part." It is easy for leaders to get agitated when they hear that another person is doing what they believe that they should be doing. Such situations can result to different reactions from different people. For some, this can cause the leader to behave irrational which can trigger many negative effects. For some leaders, they will continue going hoping that something will nock the new person off his or her feet. At the same time, some will set a process in motion to unseat such a person. Such was the case with the Pharisees and the Sadducees. They kept hatching plans to undo Jesus. They continued until they...

Jesus Led, The Disciples Followed

Image
Jesus Led, The Disciples Followed St. Matthew 4:18-20 "And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him." Jesus was a leader who knew where he was going and had the confidence to call others to join in the train and become followers. There were leaders in the time of Jesus like the sadducees and Pharisees who did not know where they were going to and only took advantage of the religious Institution of their day to lead the people. A leader must be clear as to where he is going to before he has the confidence to call others to follow him. We have a lot to learn from Jesus in this regard. Any one can follow Jesus. He is far ahead of anyone of us. No amount of educational qualification, wealth, status or age can make a man to be ahead of Jesus. As the...

Jesus Behind The Scene

Image
Jesus Had A Healthy Behind The Scene Mark 1:35 "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." What people do when no one is watching can be disappointing. For those in the place of leadership, it should not be mentioned that what they do behind the scene is not worthy of mention. What leaders do behind the scene takes most of their time (in most cases). What they do in public can be one third (or less) of their time (with a few exception). It may vary from person to person. The leader's time can be shared into three i.e. time in public, time with others in private and time in private (alone or with someone or people in intimate privacy) when no one is watching. Most of what a leader does in public is motivated and inspired by the time he spents in private. It is like building a house. The foundation of the house must be built first then the structure and then the roof. To start building from t...

Jesus Submitted

Image
Jesus Submitted To Someone Higher John 5:30 "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." When a people are led by a leader, they are led to a destination which is clearly known ahead of time. Moses led the people to the promise Land which was known ahead of time by God. Either the leader clearly knows the destination or he submits to the one who knows. It is supposed that when the people reach the destination, they will be better off. While it is true that the leader must have learned a lot over time and is not a child, the leader must have it at the back of his mind that he must submit to a person(s) or principle(s) inspite his knowledge and experience. Whatever is learned may be insufficient to lead the people over time. The leader will face dynamic situations and a people whose needs are changing. Changes will come that will make the previous knowledge ma...
