THE JEALOUS GOD

 The Jealous God

Exodus 34:14 "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:..."

Jealousy generally refers to the thoughts or feelings of being insecure, fearful, and concern over loosing possession of something or somebody. Jealousy comes with one or more other emotions such as anger, resentment, inferiority complex, helplessness or disgust. Jealousy is a fear of losing something or somebody you already have, like a relation or a friend.

Jealousy in God is that strong energy by which He is provoked and stirred and moved to take action against whatever or whoever stands in His way of his enjoyment of His desires and will. The strength of His anger of jealousy is directly in relation to the depths of his love. When God is jealousy, it is completely different from when a man (or woman) is jealous. Man is limited in knowledge, God is omniscient i.e. all knowing. In most cases, when a man is jealous, it is based on assumptions but in the case of God, His jealousy is based on His omniscient, omnipotence and omnipresence. He is Almighty while we are limited. If there is anything God desires most from the object of His love, it is worship. Much love is lavished on us by God through Jesus. Once this love is not reciprocated well, His jealousy is unleashed. How can God love a man and turns back to judge him severely? Love is the reason. God is a jealous God. His jealousy is pure and holy.

"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:..."

Worship is the key to unlock God's love. If God is worshipped sincerely from the heart, this triggers the demonstration of His love and favour. When worship is withdrawn, this triggers disfavour. When worship is turned to another god apart from the Almighty, the jealousy of God is turned on resulting to the unleashing of His anger. Man can have a similar healthy jealousy if that man is jealous for a good reason.

2 Corinthians 11:2 "For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ."

Apostle Paul made reference to "...godly jealousy...". He brought men to Christ Jesus and compared it to "...espoused you to one husband, ... to Christ." God does not share His glory with any man. Being in Christ Jesus is likened to a marriage relationship. This love relationship must be kept pure. When Christ is not at the center stage i.e. multiple partners,  this can trigger heaven's jealousy with it's consequence repercussion. How did they provoked God to jealousy? How can we provoke God to jealousy?

Deuteronomy 32:16 "They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger."

Idolatry is a way of stirring His jealousy. They sought for help by building altars and setting images to represent God. These gods they setup only invites demons that visits them in strange dreams and unfortunate daily occurrences. God withdraws and allow the demons to cause havock unless repentance is sought. Any open door to demons will take deliverance by the power of God and in Jesus name to be closed.

These days, apart from physical idols and altars raised against God, we have raise all sorts of idols. Any thing that takes the place of God in a man's heart is an idol. It can be possession, association, self, occupation etc. Whatever it is, this can trigger God's jealousy. His anger can cause Him to withdraw favour and other heavenly benefits.

Psalms 78:58 "For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images."

What is it that is replacing God in your life? Any man's relationship with any other thing must be an offshoot of the original relationship i.e. God Almighty. Possessions and occupation must be handled in a healthy way by a good relationship with God.

1 Corinthians 10:21-22 "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?"

The Lord God is pointing to one thing. His desire for us is to have Him as the main object of love. He will position us to handle anything or anyone in a healthy way. Love God with all your heart and soul and serve Him with a sincere heart. What ever He gives must not take His place in the heart.

Pray:

Father, let me love and serve You with a singular heart of a sincere heart. I am espouse to Christ Jesus for the sake of Your love. I will love You all the days of my life. Help me not to provoke You to jealousy. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!
