Authoritative Words About Jesus

Authoritative Word About Jesus

Matthew 1:21

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."

Authority gives reliability and stable foundation to trust a person or an idea. If two people speak about a matter and both contradict themselves about the matter, the most likely person to be considered is one with established reliability over time. This person is considered as authority. There are Bible scriptures about Jesus that are considered authoritative referring to the belief that these scriptures carry weight and are considered reliable, foundational, and divinely inspired within the Christian faith. Christians view the Bible as the authoritative source of their religious beliefs and teachings. The authority of these Bible verses means that they are regarded as authentic and trustworthy accounts that convey essential truth that can be trusted. The first thing to note is that the Bible itself is an authority. Its Author (God) is authority. Generation after generation, men and women are getting inspired, helped and answers to their questions in life, came. If God is an authority and not just any authority but the highest authority, it will be wise to take heed to what He has to say.

Jesus was an authority but we have to look at why we consider him authority. His authority came from God who sent word about his coming through men and women long before he came. The prophets spoke about his coming long before he came and when it was time for him to come in the flesh, God gave more authoritative word to men and women. Mary the mother of Jesus was given word about his coming. Joseph who became the earthly adoptive father of Jesus was given authoritative word of his coming.

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."

God gave these words to Joseph through an angel in a dream. It came when Joseph had doubt about the pregnancy of Mary as to who was the father of the child. The authoritative word cleared the doubt in the heart of Joseph. That is exactly what the authoritative word of God is to do for us i.e clear the doubt in our hearts. The word given to Joseph about Mary was that:

"...she shall bring forth a son..."

The sex of the child was known i.e. son. The son was to be born like any other child except that the child will not to be conceived by an earthly father. The child was conceived of the Holy Spirit. This was the struggle in the heart of Joseph which was addressed by the authoritative word of God through the angel in the dream.

'...thou shalt call his name JESUS..."

Joseph, though the child was not conceived by him, he was given permission to be the adoptive father of the child and as a result, give the child a name and the name was Jesus. What was the significance of the name?

"...for he shall save his people from their sins."

That was the reason for his coming. To save '... his people from their sins.' Sin was a menace that ravaged the lives of the people and Jesus was the answer to the sin problem. These authoritative word cleared the ground and removed doubt for the seed to thrive and bear fruit that will last. God will send His word so that there will not be any reason to get a negative outcome. Sometimes God will have to repeat the matter several times to establish the truth and bring the desired outcome. Concerning Jesus, God spoke in several ways and through men and women to establish the fact that Jesus was to come for something serious.

God spoke through Isaiah about Jesus.

Isaiah 7:14

"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

Take note of what God inspired Isaiah to say.

"...Behold, a virgin shall conceive,..."

The person that will give birth to this child was to be a female virgin. The child shall grow in the womb of a virgin. Virgin meaning that she had never conceived before and she had never known a man. As far as God is concern, this is very important.

"...Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son..."

She was to conceive and bear a son. The son was not to be dropped from heaven. He was to be born like any other child. He was to be conceived like the way every other child was born.

"...call his name Immanuel."

From Isaiah, the name of the child was Immanuel (frequently written as Emmanuel). The meaning of this name is 'God with us'. This signified that God was brought closer to the people. Compare this name 'Immanuel' with the name Joseph was to give 'Jesus'. Immanuel and Jesus does not necessarily mean the same thing but referring to the same person showing the different aspects of the person. Immanuel and Jesus meaning God was brought closer to the people to save them from their sin(s). This prophecy coming from Isaiah was fulfilled after several years.

Matthew 1:22-23

"Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

When the time came for Jesus to be born, God spoke to Joseph and made reference to what Isaiah prophesied of the coming of Jesus. This gave authority to the person of Jesus, his birth and mission on Earth. Joseph was given this revelation to establish the authenticity to all that God was doing and that also was to enlist Joseph to play a part. Joseph agreed and did as instructed. One of the missions of Joseph was to name the child. He named the child exactly the name given to him by God through the angel. What God said, came to pass. The authoritative word did not miss road. It gained ground by the obedience of men and women like Isaiah, Joseph and Mary.

Isaiah 9:6

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Faithfulness of men like Isaiah had and has no equal. He was consistently faithful. He never waivered. He was focused and spoke as inspired by God. He kept giving word and giving God the glory. He spoke and it came to pass and he kept speaking.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given..."

The birth of Christ Jesus was very significant. Jesus did not just appear and started fulfilling his purpose. He was born and this must be done correctly and God was equal to the task making sure that there was no error that will contaminate the outcome. The child was born in the world and the son was given for the mission, to achieve heaven's mandate.

"...the government shall be upon his shoulder..."

The child must grow and become strong enough to carry the weight of governance. The government shall be upon his shoulder after that the shoulder has become strong enough through growth and development. This signify Jesus as the ruler and king whose authority extends over all aspects of life, including governance and spiritual leadership. It emphasizes the Messianic role of Jesus as the ultimate and righteous ruler. This is something we need to grasp.

Isaiah and Joseph had done their part. Mary was at the center of the birth of Jesus. It was all about Jesus but someone must carry the child till birth. Mary was chosen and the ground must be set for all that to happen.

Luke 1:31-33

"And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."

This also was in fulfillment of what the prophet prophesied. This was consistent with prophecy.

"And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS..."

Now it was time for prophecy to be fulfilled. It is no more what will happen in the future. It was happening and Mary was to be at the center of it for the time being.

"...thou shalt conceive in thy womb, ..."

It was more like saying, 'You Mary and no one else shall conceive in your own womb and not another person's womb'. She was at the center of it. If you take this message in and thinking that God was only referring to Mary and isolating yourself from everything, know that God is coming to you with emphasis that you are at the center of something big and that you must carry Jesus in. While Mary carried Jesus in her womb, you are to carry him in your heart. Your heart and not another person's heart. Will you allow him just as Mary did?

"...call his name JESUS..."

This is no mere coincidence. God does not contradict Himself. He told Joseph, "...call his name JESUS..." and at a separate incidence, he told Mary the same thing, "...call his name JESUS...". This is authoritatively establishing the name of Jesus. This name was given and it had great power and authority. It is not an ordinary name. The name had and it still having great power and authority. Demons fear the name. At the name of Jesus, demons bow. In case you are suffering affliction and demonic disease, at the name of Jesus, we command the demons to leave your body. Be delivered, be healed in Jesus name. He came to save his people from their sins. In the name of Jesus, be saved and free from the power of sin and the consequences of sin.

"He shall be great..."

Greatness was bestowed on Jesus from the beginning. He however grew into greatness also. He shall be great. He ended up becoming great. Christmas is celebrated worldwide today because of Jesus even though it may not have been proven that the date Christmas is celebrated is the exact date he was born nonetheless, it is the most celebrated of all religious occasions worldwide. Will you say that Jesus is not great. His greatness made us great because of his death on the cross. Truly great men easily make others great. Jesus did!

"...Son of the Highest..."

Jesus as the son of God indicating he was of the same specie as God. God is the highest of all beings invariably meaning that Jesus was and is the highest. This sonship is the first begotten of the Father by the power of the Holy Spirit.

"...he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."

The government is now on his shoulder. He is reigning and it shall be obvious at the end of time when satan shall finally bow ultimately to him. These authoritative words were spoken of Jesus in prophecy and it came to pass. Isaiah prophesied about Jesus but he was not the only prophet who spoke about Jesus. Prophet Micah also spoke about Jesus.

Micah 5:2

"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."

These words were spoken by prophet Micah. What was spoken about Jesus here was his birth place.

"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, ... out of thee shall he come forth ..."

Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea just as Micah prophesied. God by divine arrangement set up situations where Jesus was to be born in Bethlehem of Judea without the parents of Jesus being consciously aware.

Matthew 2:6

"And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel."

What the prophet said, came to pass. This is authoritative. On this prophecy we have authority to put our faith in God and his son Jesus that salvation has finally come. What God said concerning Jesus came to pass. What He saying concerning our lives shall surely come to pass. God is saying concerning you that time have come for you to manifest your destiny.

Pray:

Father God, in You, I have authority. Your word shall come to pass in my life. Jesus is now having a place in my heart. Nothing any longer shall be impossible with me. Thank You for this revelation in Jesus name. Amen!
