The Blessed Life: The Walking, Standing And Sitting

The Blessed Life

The Walk, Stand And Sitting

Psalms 1:1

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

To be blessed is to be empowered to live life above the forces that keeps people down. It is to live in the circle of favour and grace. A blessed man finds it easy to navigate through life when others find it difficult. To have money and other material things is not the only thing that constitute being blessed. A blessed man does not endlessly pursue material things, it is just that he gets them with much ease as though the material things are following after him. A blessed man lives a prioritized life. He lives a purpose driven life.

To understand a blessed man, you need to understand what and how the blessing was triggered. You will also need to understand the opposite i.e. the cursed life. What triggers the blessing is very important, how was the blessing triggered. Can the blessing be stopped? Answering these questions can contribute to no small measure to being blessed in a sustained manner. However we so choose to start the journey of this understanding, what matters is how we measure ourselves whether we are at par with God's standard or not and not to compare ourselves with ourselves.

What triggers the blessing? How is it triggered? While there are many ways we can look at this, the word of God can be our guide so that we see things from a better light.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

It will be clear from the above scripture that the blessed man took the mantle by association and impartion. What influences the man will determine whether he is blessed or cursed.

"Blessed is the man that walketh ... standeth ... sitteth in the seat ..."

These are crucial to being blessed. Where a man walks, stands and sits is very important to being blessed. The atmosphere that motivates his walking, standing and siting is key factor in being blessed or cursed. The steps he takes was triggered. What triggered it? How he looks at life came from someone or something or somewhere. Where did it come from? The position he occupies or how he perceives himself also came from someone or something or somewhere. Where does it come from?

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,.."

This blessed man walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. It is not just that he does not walk with the ungodly, the focus here is that he does not walk in their counsel. He does not go to them to receive counsel and when they come to him, he does not walk with the counsel they give. He gets his counsel somewhere else. So, it is possible for him to live among them yet his counsel does not come from them. This is very important to being blessed. When he takes a step, what motivates the step came not from the ungodly. They may even have steps that looks alike but if you look at it carefully, you will find out that the steps are not the same. Look at the same scripture from a different version of the Bible.

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked ..." NIV

This man does not look at their steps to take his. He is not in step with them. Who are they? They are ungodly, they are wicked. They care not for others, they have no God in their minds to prick their conscience. They love sin and promote it. They make mockery of important things. This man knows that if he must be blessed, his counsel must not come from them. He is not in step with them. If he is found among them for any reason, he has already gotten his counsel somewhere else. Where is it from?

"...nor standeth in the way of sinners,.."

Still looking at where it came from. He does not stand with them. He is standing on the rock while they stand on the sinking sand. From the outlook of things, It appears like the ground is the same but no, it is not the same. They seems not to understand why the man is happy. He is standing on the ground that will not sink at anytime. They can not see this until the light opens their eyes. The foundation on which he is standing is well built.

Let us come down to the point, where is he standing? Where is his motivation coming from?

"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Psalms 1:2

This is the point we are aiming at. This is where his walk came from. The steps he takes came from "... the law of the Lord,...". This is what they cannot see. Actually, the reason they cannot see this is because the law of the Lord is written in his heart and not his forehead. We can not see this because it is not by physical observation. We can only see the fruits of what is in the heart. What makes him blessed is the law of the Lord. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. Where the man stands, is where the rock of the word of God stands. He can not be rock pulled by the pressure of life. His steps are ordered by the law of the Lord. He sits in the position the Lord keeps him. In short, he is in step with God. He is truly blessed. He is a happy man. There is however a catch here. The question we have to ask ourselves is that, 'How did the law of the Lord find a strong hold on him?'

"...in his law doth he meditate day and night."

He meditates on the law of the Lord. By meditation, he thinks the word, he rehearse it in his imagination. He thinks of the many different ways it can be put into practice in his life to bring the desired result. He saw the result by the word of the Lord. While he was among the ungodly and wicked, he was thinking about it. His steps were ordered by it. It was in his mind. The only option was for him to be blessed.

The whole point is that his walk and standing and seating is by the word of God. That is why blessing is following him.

"But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and whose mind is on his law day and night." BBE version.

He kept analysing what ever situation he may find himself by the word of the Lord. He kept making projections by the word. They saw him among them and thought that he was doing it because they were doing it. They did not know that he was doing it because he was inspired by the word of God. No wonder he was blessed.

Now, let us understand properly what this blessing is all about.

"And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalms 1:3

He is likened to a tree planted by the rivers of water. What is the significance of this? A tree by the river has enough water to survive. The river not only supply abundance of water but also have some deposits of nutrients for the plant. The blessed man will never lack what triggers growth because the word of God will always nourish him. He has the river of the word of God within him. His mind and heart is filled with the word of God.

"... rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The blessed man is a prosperous man. He is fruitful, he is flourishing. The Lord sees in him the word and moves to bless him.

"...his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

Whatsoever he does prospers. Whatsoever means whatsoever. The 'whatsoever' here is the whatsoever that is within the boundary of the word of God. He can not deliberately do wrong or anything evil because his conscience will prick him along the way. Whatsoever he will do will be within the boundary of the word of God. The word of God makes him prosper.

"... that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither,..."

He bears fruit at the right time. Some trees bear fruit at the wrong time. When they are expected to bear fruit, no fruit is found in them. The blessed man, bears fruit at the right time. You need to compare the blessed man with the unblessed to appreciate the blessedness that comes from the Lord.

"The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous." Psalms 1:4,5

The ungodly or the wicked are like chaff. The nutrients in chaff are removed. They are light and can easily be blown away by the wind. In most cases, chaff are not useful and so are thrown away or given to animals to fill their stomach. That is the lot of the wicked and ungodly. The blessing can not find a place in them. They tend to repel the blessing.

It is time for you to enter the blessing. See yourself as the blessed man. You can not do what they are doing. Though you may be found with them, you do not take the steps with them because your motivation is not theirs. You have to come home and dwell in the word of God. The word of God covers you. The word of God in you radiats light which attracts the blessing. You are empowered by the word of God. By the word, you take your steps. By the word of God you stand. By the word, you sit. Is there anything that is keeping you away from the word of God? Take action and get nourishment by the word of God. You are doing yourself a favour, you are getting blessed.

Pray:

My Lord and God. Bless me as I take my delight in your word. Order my steps by the word and let me nourished to bear fruit at the right time. I am blessed because You blessed me. Your word has found a place in my heart and soul. To the glory of your name. I am not wicked nor ungodly because of Your word. Thank You in Jesus name. Amen!
