Living The Blessed Life: The Blessing And The Curse

The Blessing And The Curse

Deuteronomy 27:8-13

"And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.

Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:

And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali."

The blessing has an opposite, the curse. You are either blessed or cursed. There is no middle line. To be blessed is more than having money. It is the release that commands the flow of virtue that makes life to flow with ease. To be cursed is more than living a life of suffering and pain. To be cursed is be flowing in the river of confusion without a meaningful direction. It is a life without a proper inner setting. It is a life without inner empowerment that brings about physical results.

A blessed man is like a river that starts somewhere (head) with the intention of arriving somewhere predetermined for good. Though the river tends to meander, it is still moving and gathering momentum in the direction it was intended. The cursed man also is like a river that is moving and gathering momentum for evil.

If we look at blessing and curse as rivers, then these rivers have a 'HEAD'. A river head is the place where the river starts. The river flow with the energy it acquires from the head and gains more energy along the way as rain falls into it or more waters flow from other rivers from different sources. Where is the head of 'River Blessing' and 'River Curse'?

"And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.

Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day..."

The blessing has its source in God. He is the river head of blessing. The famous Deuteronomy chapters 27 and 28 gives us a good understanding of how to walk in the blessing. We see in these chapters of the Bible how blessing and curse are triggered. We see in these chapters how blessing and curse are activated and deactivated. We see how the river of blessing can gain momentum and how curses are made to bring down the life of any man or woman.

"And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly...."

Blessing is not activated arbitrarily. It comes by activating the law of blessing which is the word of God. God is 'HEAD' or starting point of any blessing. By the law of blessing, the river starts flowing. The law is not made hidden, it is made plain. It is written on stone so that it does not fade. Stone tablets are not easily destroyed like paper or clothing materials. Laws are rules that govern how things are to be done. To be blessed in to align oneself with these laws which are not hidden. For a man or woman not to align himself or herself to these laws, is as good as welcoming a curse. You want to be Blessed? Discover the river head of your blessing, the law that govern blessing i.e the word of God. What is God telling you that you are running away from? Do not run away from God. He is the head of your river of blessing.

"...And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God...."

Identifying with God is the first step. People of God are people that God can confidently say that they are His. That is exactly what He is looking forward to say concerning you. Are you His? If you are not, you can be His today. There is a peace that only He can give that no man give you. Once you have that peace, you know that the river have started flowing. You are in the blessing. It is possible for the river to start from the head but along the way to become stagnant. Stale blessing is not what we are looking for. We are looking for a continuous flow of blessing. There must not be a break from the head, there must be a gain in momentum. Moses, the priests and Levites represent God to the people. They hear from God and instruct the people. Why will the law be there and yet Moses and the priests instruct the people? Possibly because, the people need to know which aspect of the law is relevant for now. Daily instructions help to make the river of blessing gain momentum. The instructions of yesterday may not be relevant for today. Yesterday, you may be sick but today a different need may arise. Today you may need some provision which may not be the same tomorrow. Though the law is not changing, we are changing and improving and what maybe demanded of us maybe changing. Moses regularly instructs the people what is needed for the present time to make the river of blessing to continuously flow. In our days today, we have the Holy Spirit, we have men and women who are used of God to remind us of the demand of heaven to stay in the blessing.

"...Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day..."

Obedience to the command as demanded by the law of God is what will keep the river of blessing flowing. If you will like to enjoy the blessing, be obedient to the law of God. The blessing will flow like river. The law is not hidden. Heaven's demand for your blessing is clear. It is not enough to know it, obedience makes the river to gain momentum.

The Release of The Blessing

Deuteronomy 27:11-14

"And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:

And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,.."

There is a point where the blessing of God is released. It is the stage where the instructions becomes clear and relevant for that moment in time. A word for each moment will keep the river in continuous motion in the right direction. At every stage of the river's journey, it either gains momentum, becomes stagnant or change direction. The relevant word is needed to keep the river in motion in the right direction.

"And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,.."

A demand for obedience was placed on the people by Moses from God which was relevant for the day. As long as they stay in obedience, they enjoy the blessing. The demand placed on the people is always made clear. It is not obscure.

"These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, ..."

The pronouncement that releases the blessing is made at an elevated position, '... upon Mount' Gerazim to bless the people...". The elevated position indicating authority. The Bible is an authority. Mount Gerazim is a known mountain along the journey of the Israelites' journey to the promise land. The Holy Spirit is an authority when it comes to divine leading for the blessing along the journey. Special days set aside could be elevated positions. Men and women placed in place of authority can be used of God for the blessing. They must not contradict what is in the mind of God. These keeps the river of the blessing flowing.

"..And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; ..."

Upon mount Gerazim came the blessing but the curse was released from mount Ebal. The blessing came by obedience but the curse came by disobedience. The head of the river of curse is not the same with that of the blessing. If you stay attached with God in the blessing, blessing shall continually flow for you.

When the blessing is released, stay in obedience and let the river flow continually.

Pray:

"Father, I identify with You. I want to stay in the blessing. I remain with You in obedience. Help me to hear correctly and to remain faithful in Jesus name. Amen!"
