Living The Blessed Life: Blessed Abraham

Blessed Abraham

Genesis 24:1

"And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things."

It is a good ending when a man started somewhere small and kept the focus until his life was spent ending somewhere greater than where he started. Abraham stayed with God all through the journey of life starting from the time God spoke to him until his dieing days. It is said of him

"And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things."

To be blessed in all things should be the desire of every man. From the age of 75 to 175, Abraham was faithful and kept to the terms of the covenant with God. Human error crept in along the way but he was able to retrace his steps. God bless Abraham and he stayed blessed till the end. The same testimony awaits you if you will keep to the terms of God's covenant till the end. Few people will have the same testimony like Abraham for many reasons. There will distractions, detours and interruptions. Whatever maybe, God expects from you faithfulness. Stay in the Blessing! How did God started with Abraham?

How It Started

Genesis 12:1-3

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

Abraham was initially called Abram. He was initially in Haran with his father and members of his family and he met God alone. This personal encounter with God was the starting point and should be a continual life style for each and everyone of us. There will be a starting point for each one of us and there should be a continuation. Abraham was 75 when God called him. You must not wait until you are 75, it may be too late for you, yours may be 20 or 30 or even 40 (or whatever age as it will please the Lord). Start now. Start a relationship with God. Starting is the platform for the true blessing. God's dealings is the ground for a solid foundation.

What did God tell Abraham? It is good to know that a word from God can change your life for ever. To stay in the place where God can easily access you is very important to remaining favoured. This is what God told Abraham:

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, 'Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed'."

In essence, God was telling Abraham to leave the familiar territory of assumed security to the unfamiliar ground (only known by God) as would be directed by God Himself. It takes faith in God to take this kind of step. That was the secret behind Abraham's blessing.

"...Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:.."

It will be the same with you. You will have to get out (of something or someplace) before you can get in to the blessing. You may have to get out of sin (or wrong principles or ideology) so that you can get in the blessing. God met him and his life never remained the same again.

"...And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:..."

There was a step Abraham had to take and when he has taken the step, God was then to pour out the blessing. Once Abraham has done his part, God blessed him. God was and still faithfull.

Continually Receiving The Blessing

The word from the Lord set the stage for Abraham to be transformed from a nobody to a somebody. Abraham took the step in obedience to the word from the Lord and the he was blessed. One thing about him was that he stayed in the blessing by being obedient to the word. It was not a one time obedience, it was a life time obedience. He kept looking for ways to reference and reverence God.

Hebrews 7:1,6

"For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;...

But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises."

Abraham build altars in reference and reverence to God. He changed location in reference to God. He spoke in reference and reverence to God. He took actions in reference and reverence to God. His heart was stayed on God.

One of the actions he took in reference and reverence to God was his 'Giving' and sharing lifestyle. He was hospitable to the extend that he entertained angels unawares. The concept of tithing was first recorded in the bible when Abraham gave tithe to Melchizedek. He saw Melchizedek as a priest of God and he gave tithe to him. Melchizedek did not ask for it but Abraham gave because he had a heart for God. That was one thing that kept the cloud of the blessing to keep coming.

"Melchizedek ... received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises."

Remember that God gave the word for the blessing and Abraham kept to the word and was blessed but he kept doing what made God to keep the cloud of the blessing heavy. No wonder he was blessed in all things and not just in some things. Continually reverencing God will continually pour the blessing.

Receive The Blessing

We have our part in Abraham's blessing. The blessing of Abraham will be ours by faith.

Galatians 3:13-14

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:...

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

How can we access this blessing? How can we get the blessing of Abraham? How can enjoy what Abraham enjoyed? How can we get blessed in the things? How can our lives get spent in the blessing? Abraham lived some thousands of years ago but here we are seeing and desiring to access the blessing of Abraham. By what means and in what way can that be possible?

"...That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

It is possible by Christ Jesus. We may not be the genealogical descendants of Abraham but we can access the blessing through Christ Jesus. To access Jesus is to access the blessing of Abraham. To access Jesus is by the Spirit of God dealings in our hearts. The is the umbilical cord for the pouring of the blessing. Something great is about to happen to you.

"...through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise..."

Are you ready to receive the blessing? Are you ready to be transformed? This is that big thing that you have been praying for. Receive the blessing in Christ Jesus. The blessing that God has promised is available in Christ Jesus. God has given the word for your blessing take it in Christ and the embarkment for your blessing will be removed. It is no more that you will be blessed but rather, you are blessed. The Holy Spirit of God will start a new work in you and nothing will stop the blessing from transforming your life again for ever.

"...That the blessing of Abraham might come ... through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Faith in Christ Jesus has sealed the deal and set us for the blessing. You are in the blessing because you are in Christ Jesus and this has become possible by the Spirit of God and you take hold of it by faith in Christ Jesus. We are sons of Abraham by faith in Christ. Recipe the blessing.

Pray;

My Father and my God, thank You for the blessing I receive by the Spirit. I have faith in You that in Christ Jesus, I receive the blessing of Abraham. I receive Your goodness and mercy and my life is transformed. As from today, I am blessed and I am no more the same. I give You the glory in Jesus name I pray. Amen!
